Repairing Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding is durable and very low maintenance. However, over time, the siding may become damaged and require some type of repair. Extreme temperatures can easily damage vinyl siding. For example, a hot BBQ grill can melt the siding and an extremely cold day may cause the vinyl to crack or break. Additionally, the impact from a baseball or a piece of hail may leave a permanent dent.
1. Minor hole or puncture
Although a small hole may seem insignificant, it should be repaired as soon as possible. Even a small hole may allow moisture to accumulate under the siding and this can lead to more serious structural damage to your home over time. Very small holes like this can usually be filled caulk that matches the color of your siding.
2. Larger holes or punctures
This type of damage can typically be covered with a vinyl siding patch. When you have vinyl siding installed, your contractor may leave you with some of the leftover materials. This will come in handy when you inevitably need to make a repair.
3. Major crack or dent
This type of damage may require you to replace an entire piece of siding. This will require you to unlock and unzip the entire piece and replace it with a new one. Repairs like this should not be done in the winter when vinyl can become brittle. Also, it can be difficult to match the color of your siding if the color of the vinyl has faded over time. Your siding contractor may be able to help you find a solution.
