What thickness siding do I want to install?

$ - Less than 0.04”. Economy grade siding.

$$ - Between 0.04 - 0.045". Standard grade siding.

$$$ - More than 0.045”. Premium grade siding (which sometimes has insulated backing).

Does the current siding need to be removed?

$0 – When new siding is installed over the existing siding.

$$ - When the existing siding needs to be removed and disposed.

$$$ - When the existing siding needs to be removed and repairs need to be made to the exterior walls prior to installing the new siding.

Do I want to use insulated siding?

$ - When un-insulated siding is installed with no insulated backing.

$$ - When insulated vinyl siding is installed.

$$ - When the house is wrapped with insulation and un-insulated siding is installed.

$$$ - When the house is wrapped with insulation and insulated siding is installed.

What time of year will the siding be installed?

$ - When siding is installed in the late fall or early winter.

$$ - When siding is installed during peak season (spring or summer). Bottom line is that contractors are busier during spring and summer. The busier the contractor, the more expensive the contractor.

Do I want shutters?

$0 - Remove existing shutters and dispose of them.

$ - Remove existing shutters and re-install them after the siding is installed.

$$ - Remove existing shutters and have contractor purchase and install new shutters.

Will the contractor have to do any custom work?

$$ - When window trim/frames need to be wrapped.

$$ - When door trim/frames needs to be wrapped.

$$ - When eave boards need to be covered or wrapped.

$$ - When fascia needs to be replaced or covered.

$$ - When soffit needs to be replaced.

$$ - When extra large panels are used to minimize the number of seams.

$$ - When accommodations need to be made for odd-shaped windows.

$$ - When gable louvers and vents need to be replaced or added.
